Lost in limbo

Lost, abandoned and set aside

Approaching the abandoned legs, she recalled the story of English pilot Douglas Bader, who lost both his legs when his plane was shot down in 1931.

And how, when he returned with prosthetic legs to fly in WW2, he was shot down again. Ejecting from the plane and unable to take his legs with him, Bader was once more, legless and in limbo.

According to official sources, Bader requested that the Germans allow the RAF to airdrop another set of legs to him. To which—remarkably—they complied.

She suspected these legs had seen a lot of action too.
